What is behind the bar

Shelves of wine and spirit bottles behind a bar under warm bulbs, with glasses standing upside down on a folded towel on the counter.

Wine

About forty bottles at any time, half of them from within a day's drive. Twelve by the glass, and the glass list is rewritten every season rather than every year.

Cocktails

A short list that does not change much, made properly, plus whatever the bar is working on that month written on the card by the till.

Beer

Four taps that rotate through Missouri and Kansas brewers, and a cooler of the things people actually ask for when they do not want a tasting.

A brick walled courtyard at dusk with folding bistro tables and chairs on flagstones under two strings of bulbs, ivy across the far wall.

Booking a night or the room

Tasting seats are held by phone and paid on the night. For the room, ring with a date and a rough headcount and you will get a yes or a no while you are on the call. There is no form to fill in and nothing to sign until the deposit.

If the date is already spoken for, we keep a short waiting list and it moves more often than you would think.
